Students are required to produce a monthly book report.  Topic vary monthly, and each student has a copy of the list that is organized by month.  Each month the student selects a book from the topic assigned, receives approval of  the book from Mrs. Alba-Love  (books need to be at least 100 pages and appropriate to the individual student's level), and then reads the book independently.  Details of the month's book report requirements are distributed to the students around the first of the month.  Book reports are generally due the last Wednesday of the month.  Students present book reports to the class.  These assignments are designed to improve independent reading, writing, and presentation skills.

September's book report is a book of the student's choice.  The students will create a NEW book cover that is inviting to potential readers and includes a summary of the novel on the back.

October's book report type is a mystery.   Each student will complete a cereal box report, so they need to start saving an empty cereal box.

November's report will center around the study of another country.  Each student will select a book about a country that interests him/her and then create a  scrapbook about a visit to that country.  Students should pretend they have visited the country and share the scrap book created as though they are just returning from an exciting trip.  Students may dress as people from the country studied and/or bring a sample of food that represents that country.  Students, please study a country that you have not studied before.

There will be no book report due in December.

January will be biography month.  Each student will select a book about a person and then dress up as that person when presenting the book report.  Small props may be included.  However, anything that is alive, must be escorted home by a parent immediately following the presentation.

Poetry will be the topic for the month of February.  Students may select poems based on a particular topic or on a particular poet.  They will then type and illustrate the poems for a short anthology.
